Paul,
The biodegradable peanuts are made of cornstarch.
I suggest you keep the cat and use it as a pounce bag! :-)

this very small black cat mysteriously showed up on the scene a few weeks
ago, one unique thing about it is that it has no "meow" at all, a totally
silent cat. Then the other day it was playing with a box that had some
packaging peanuts in it (no the styrofoam kind but the other kind that are
made of some kind of biodegradable material) and it started biting one of
them, then chewing on it, then all of a sudden i realized the peanut was
gone! I was just like, are you serious? Then it went back and ate another
one and now a week or so later the box is only half full and i am almost
positive it was almost full before...
Does anyone know what these things are made of? Somehow the
word "cellulose" comes to my mind, which would mean they are made of some
kind of plant material i think.
Is it normal for cats to eat these things?
Does anyone want this cat? It is in northern KY but i could easily UPS it
anywhere in the continental US since it would survive just fine on packing
peanuts along the way, just let me know if interested.
thanks,
Paul

Paul,
Many packing peanuts are made of a dissolvable/biodegradible starch.

i don't think it will hurt the cat,
i had a sick chicken in the studio
and the stupid thing ate not only
the bio kind but the others as well..
pecked the bags open to get to them.
we had to finally put the containers
up higher than she could jump.
she recovered enuf to return to the
coop and many months later , is still
out there laying green eggs.
bliss....
where it is 0 degrees...

I have 2 cats and yep, they both like the peanuts also. Jenni is 12 yrs
old and Minx is 2 yrs old and they are fine. Sounds like little kitty
is just hungry. When I found Jenni on the side of the road she couldn't
meow either but after some antibiotics she was fine within a few weeks
and has meowed ever since. Maybe you need a studio cat?

I also had a cat who adored these things.
He'd sort though a whole box of mixed packing
peanuts looking for the 'good ones'. The vet
said no problem. We wondered, since they
resemble cheez-puffs, whether he might prefer
those, but in a side-by-side feline taste
test, the packing peanuts were consistently
preferred!

Hi Paul - I thought I was the only one out there with a weird cat!
My cat not only eats packing peanuts, she also consumes bubble wrap, styrofoam
bed sheets, and the long sleeves of my tee shirts. I can't keep any packing
material or plastic in the house or studio. I have consulted my vet, and he at
first didn't believe me, but he doesn't have a solution for me other than to
keep her away from these materials. The bed sheets are a problem though, I
have to make my bed every morning (which I do anyway) in a military fashion
with the sheets tucked in tight.
Good Luck....

I had a cat that loved broccoli. She would leave the chewed
up stalk on the floor as if it were a half-eaten mouse.

LOL! I have a situation that is opposite from all these "peanut" loving cats. My youngest cat loves boxes. A few years ago I had returned with some small sculptures from a show that I had in a box used to ship paper towels, sort of deep, and full of peanuts. After removing the work I loosely closed the box to keep the peanuts from getting all over the studio.,I hate the damned things. Well adventure cat decided he'd jump into the box,I'm glad that the work had been removed. Before I could yell,he jump in.completely disappeared under the peanuts and in less time than it took him to jump in he sprung out of the box, totally freaked out,he had never seen peanuts before. For a while he had a deeply rooted fear of peanuts but over time it has evolved into a suspicious caution leaving them alone edible or not. He still loves boxes, however now he looks before he leaps.

Our cat will fight me for anything that is lemon flavored. My wife makes
this lemon cake, and everytime I get a piece I have to cut a smaller piece
for the cat. Otherwise if I turn my head she is there trying to sneak my cake.

I would love to have the cat but can't afford the peanuts....
Steve Mills on thu 9 nov 06
And incidentally Rats and similar Rodents LOVE them, which is why I
NEVER use them.
Another reason I don't use them is that over here they are coloured
yellow, appropriately flavoured, and sold in packets as *Cheesy
Moments*........YUK!!!
