Dear Mel,=20
I think you are way off beam on this one
<<...why is it, that very few farmers, ranchers in Australia...get skin =
cancer. because they live with the sun. gradual building up of strength. =
it is the office worker
that never see the outside, drives to work, lives in an air conditioned =
building, then an air conditioned house...>>
Most of the people who I know who were born around Redhill District have =
worked on the land all their lives. Most play sport, including the =
ladies. Most now suffer from skin cancer. Based on my observations it is =
a myth that gradual exposure builds resistance to fatal melanoma. This =
is also supported by the article in Encyclopedia Britannica. Persistent =
exposure to sunlight, even on dull days, initiates irreversible =
biological changes in the skin layers that might be regarded as =
premature aging. Melanin, the pigment responsible for that wonderful =
"Healthy" tan exhibited by sportsmen, including swimmers and surfers is =
one of the later symptoms of cancer seen as black speck, spots and moles =
on exposed skin. This is a late response to exposure, after the skin has =
been traumatised. Needless to say those groups born with ample supplies =
of Melanin, aboriginal, Melanesian and negroids groups suffer less from =
skin cancer than the pale skinned blond haired Nordic and Germanic =
groups and the red haired Irish who settled Redhill.
Best regards,
Ivor Lewis.
Redhill,
South Australia.
