I tried the following glaze and got a very nice black with sort of a teadust
effect. I would like to increase the gold flecs. I assume this came from
the manganese. Do I just need to increase the manganese to increase the
flecs? (I am aware of the manganese problem)

Randy -- There's a good chance that the recipe you gave gets its
gold flecks from the rutile. An easy test for the manganese vs.
rutile theory would be to glaze a small sample piece in the glaze,
and paint a stripe or whatever (personally, I'd use the letters
M and R myself, but I'm very simplistic about tests) in a thin
solution of rutile and water and manganese and water. That'll
show you which additional material will give you the effect.
I'd like to know what the results of your glaze development are!
Best wishes -- Steve S
