Hello All: I've been working on a new kiln design, and am thinking about
using a castable for the body of the kiln. I have seen some good formulas
for insulating castable but can't for the life of me locate a good source
for the calcium aluminate cement. Has anyone out there used this material
and?or know of a good source. Any help would be truly appreciated.

Thank you Mr. Lewis. What did you use this Black Lightening Cement? May I
ask where you purchased it?
Sincerely,

Dear Craig Edwards,
Well, that was back in 1970, in Sunderland, England. I got it from a =
Building Supply Merchant. They kept it for fireplace and chimney work.
I cast the arch of the first kiln I ever made using an aggregate of =
crushed firebrick and vermiculite. Set up well and fired to round about =
cone 04 at that time before I got into stoneware. Left it in the garden =
when we moved after graduating from Training College.
Hope you have good success.
Best regards,
Ivor Lewis.
