My husband and I were talking about receiving a bit of the peace from a
hand made item when we use it. His theory is there's an energy transfer
from artist to piece and from piece to user. He may be on to something.

Last spring, I had some health problems and had to take a week off from
work. The only time the nausea and dizziness disappeared was when I was
making art. For me, making art is both emotionally and physically
healing.

My professional life - as a criminal defense attorney - happens at the
speed of sound, is connected to the internet, is dependent upon e-mail,
and I don't think I could do a trial without my computer. The problem
is, I can't live at that speed for any length of time. I absolutely
need to make art. I absolutely need to use hand made items. I don't
think I'm the only one suffering from technology overload.

The kids are having fun right now with text messages and all their
electronic gadgets. But overload will effect them as surely as it has
effected me. They, too, will need to create and to use hand made items.

BTW, I've been married 34 years. When we were first married, we bought
a few pieces of pottery. Last night, I started to wonder about a little
bowl we bought many years ago. I took a good look at that bowl, and my
best guess is it's glazed with..... temmoku.
