one man's work

is another mans play. The migrant workers have gone home to Jamaica after a
long 6-7 months of hard labour in the vineyards in sun, rain, snow, hail and
whatever Mother N throws at them.
Canada being famous for it's ice wine those grapes are still under nets.
They will be picked when the temperature hits -17 degrees. There is a
waiting list at my friends winery of people that volunteer for the day/night
to pick the grapes. They show up in their Beamer, Benz and Lexus SUV's
bought especially for that day. they dress up in down vests and Lifa
underwear equivalent of a month's wages for migrant worker. They get fed by
a great chef prepared stew and wash it down with a sampling of wine. This
hard labour also entitles them to purchase some of the harvest. They have
bragging rights of how they helped to make this vintage of icewine.
I think there are just as many people that want to be potters for a day but
wake up tomorrow in the luxury that pottery could never afford. Dick and
Sandy are right it is a lifestyle choice. Given the choice I doubt very much
many would opt for it.
Single and 31 I think Julie is making a wise move to get paid professional
wages with benefits. When I was travelling thru Texas with Tom W he told me
his health insurance was $10,000 a year. How would you like the first
$10,000 of your pots in 2007 to go to health care? We haven't factored in
the mortgage, car, fuel, clay and supplies and other expenses into the
equation yet.
Most in the arts today have some financial backing.

Dear Tony,

Sounds like the real thing that is necessary to concoct the infamous =
"Ice Worm Cocktail".

In the Clare region they slash the canes to increase the sugar and in =
the heat (Plus 40 C) the grapes.dehydrate. Very strong, over sweet wine.

Best regards,

Ivor
