I use a thin wash of colemanite or gerstley borate.
Add water to the powder till you have a thin glaze.
One ingredient. Simple.
It will run on the outside, so it is only for a liner.
The advantage of this is that it fluxes from abut cone
2 on up. so if your piece is in a cool spot, it has a
functional lining.
I got this from the late Sandra Johnstone, who used
this in her salt kiln, where parts only got to cone 5.
Everything had a functional liner.
Bowls in an anagama tend to catch crusty stuff. Load
them so it is open facing the back. When ash deposits
inside pieces with this liner it creates a nice ash
glaze, too.
