smoke filter

There is progress in getting rid of smoke.
In the local area they are testing a new filter on the diesel switch
engines in Oakland across the bay from here.
The diesels there were known for the black smoke they put out. These
filters are said to stop it.
The filter looks something like the catalytic converter in my wood
stove only bigger.

Maybe when they get these perfected we can use them on our wood fire
kilns in places where the smoke is a problem.
More info in the story:

So is there is hope for a wood fire kiln in Mill Valley? Right now
we have to get rid of our beloved wood stove by 2008. (Local town
ordinance.)

Fred,

Look at the sketch of the kiln at the bottom of this page:

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/WoodKiln/web/kusakabe-smokeless-kiln?hl=en

It is totally smokeless until the ware chambers are stoked,
but you could put burners in those chambers. In the channel running
below the main chambers, ware is stacked and they get anagama-like
crusty ash. my drawing is a little off, but the bottom channel is
taller than what I drew on the actual kiln. This kiln was built in
Canada. The long flame path helps burn up the carbon before it
leaves the kiln.
