Well, I'm wanting to experiment with soda. Maybe converting my electric is
not such a good idea if I'm wanting good results, so will consider investing
in a used kiln ap[[ro[riate for soda, mid size, not previously used for
soda. Also would be curious if there are any kiln builders in the north bay
area whom I might assist in building a soda kiln; an just what kind of cost
am I looking at? So far, get that catenary arch is best, downdraft? Would
need to be propane driven, and no, I'm not resourceful enough to build one
on my own.
Thanks,
Centa

There is a soda kiln a College of Marin built by and used by students
a few times each semester. It was rebuilt about 3 years ago. Hard
bricks and natural gas fired. Has an arch roof fired from both sides
with bagwalls, Downdraft I think. You could probably go there when
classes are running in February to look at it.
I have a little two cubic foot gas kiln that I built to experiment
with Moorish lusters. Soft brick.
I have been thinking I might use it for soda firing . I should be
able to get five or ten firings before it goes rotten.
I suppose it could be rebuilt then with hard bricks since there are
only about 20 or 30 bricks in the thing. It is small enough that it
could be lined with kiln shelves. Iwonder if that would work?
