Bob Brisco gave me this hint about an ice age ago. Go to the hardware stor=
e or Grainger's or something and get a "flap wheel". Put it on your grinder=
and after unloading pots with rough bottoms just turn the griinder on and =
let the flap wheel smooth the bottoms. It only takes a few seconds for a m=
ug, slightly longer for larger pieces and the bottoms are smooth.=0A=0ABobH=

I tried this and found that the clay was being
discolored by the flap wheel. I still prefer the
diamond pad that I bought that was about 11.00 and
shipping was paid. 80 grit sandpaper doesn't take
any time at all either.

I have always found the simplest and best way is to rub the bottoms of
two pots together. Of course if they have deeply trimmed feet one has to
be a bit careful, but I've never chipped any doing it this way, and it's
quick and doesn't raise dust if you're gentle with it.
