digital photography and online applications

I've just gotten a show application that is using "zapplication.org" , a
site for uploading your digital images for jurying. I haven't registered on
the site yet, and I'm guessing that I will need to actually purchase some
photo-editing software (as opposed to the free version of Adobe that I'm
using) in order to size my photos as required. (I believe it's 1680 pixels
square). I'd just like to hear any thoughts/discussion about any or all
related subjects: online applications, photo software, computers (I have an
older pc and I'm thinking of a Mac), or anything else related to this
general theme.

Thanks for everyone's input, and warm wishes for the New Year.

Brenda,
Photoshop Elements is a great deal for the money. It has most of the
bells and whistles of Photoshop at a fraction of the cost! It comes
in Mac/PC versions but I don't know if they are both on the same
disc. Stop thinking and make the plunge. Born again Mac users are
like born again ex-smokers, they can't believe they tortured
themselves for years...

Brenda,
I'm sure there are others out there with more experience than I, but to get
myself just in the game at this point, I use IRFANview software, which is a
freeware download on the web. It's not a fancy editing program, but you can
resize your images to the required size (1920 x 1920 pixels, by the way)
very easily.

Macintosh computers come with an application called iPhoto
that allows one to easily resize .jpeg images. It also has
some basic photo editing features.
