Hi Barb,
If you are OK with stains, all those colors are very possible at ^6
and higher. You need a high calcium glaze containing no zinc
(although with encapsulated stains--bright reds, yellows, oranges--
there aren't any formulation no-nos). Find stain colors that appeal
to you and add them according to the stain manufacturer's
recommendations. You can also mix the stains to produce even more
garish colors.
If you don't want to use stains, for chartreuse try praesodymium
oxide, for yellow try vanadium. Other bright colors may require
different glaze formulations, such as barium and copper for turquoise
and barium and nickel for purple--very toxic.

O hell yes they ARE available in ^6 - or at least, one is. It's called
Kemp Purple, and it is a SCREAMING bright lavender purple matte. Check
the archives; I don't have my recipe book handy at the moment. Also,
Mason makes some pretty outlandish colored stains; no reason why you
couldn't add some of them to a base glaze and go nuts. AND, I've seen
bright colors like that in the Spectrum line, and have even used their
lime green and lemon yellow. So. Go for it!!!

I laughed so hard, because the studio where I first learned to throw used a
fugly "opalescent" purple glaze. It was NASTY and it was PURPLE and it was
REALLY SHINY.
I confess to still having a piece glazed in this, and will try to post a
picture. I am embarrassed, as the glaze is on the first pitcher I ever made
- which is also nasty.
There are MANY ugly ^6 glazes, especially if you don't care about food
safety.
And by the way, I love chartreuse, and use it all the time.

Ah Brian,
What an amazing workshop it was. We looked like a bunch of little ants milling around all those chemicals. But the results were nothing short of exciting.
Everyone, if you get a chance to do one of Brian's workshops....DO IT!
Not only is the glazing a great learning experience, but Brian's sense of design and where he finds these ideas is a great source of inspiration.

They are achievable with a good base glaze and stains. Mason stain
for Chartreuse works.

Hi Barb,
Good to see you're back for awhile at least.
David Pier has been getting some pretty remarkable colors
using lanthanide elements to color glazes, and he says they
will work in a wide range of glaze formulations. You might find
some inspiration from reading his article here:
http://www.lagunaclay.com/news/rare.htm
Besides Laguna, U.S. Pigment also carries these materials,
and most likely other suppliers do too. Prices are not too expensive.
Good luck in your quest for the garish.

Hi Barb
I use page 97 from M^6G and 10% "garish" Mason stains. They have some
really great BRIGHT colours that work great at ^6.
