Hey Kim, can't say what is up with Laguna/Axner, but I can say that this
is an example of something that has cropped up on the list before. The
idea of buying local, especially on some of the big ticket items. As you
know our local Ceramics Store has quite a stock of kilns, slabrollers,
etc. Sometimes the percentage saved by buying from another place is
overshadowed by the time and frustration that may occur. I know of
another example such as this where an ex student of mine went back and
forth with a wheel purchase before finally settling with a home town
purchase.

What's with Laguna/Axner?
I ordered one of their advertised Rolling Thunder slabrollers October 26,
2006 as advertised on sale for $549 in Ceramics Monthly. I then received in
November and December e-mail adverts that they still have them on sale
(albeit at a higher price) and in stock.
I STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED MY SLABROLLER!
I called, but could only leave a message on voice mail.
Complaining is more fun in a two way conversation.
Don't you think?

I'd like to second Craig's idea. We need local ceramics stores (those of us that have access to them), and supporting them not only by buying materials and supplies but also the big ticket items is important. We recently added another wheel to our studio and I shopped all the major sites -- and also followed a thread here on Clayart about someone having a big problem with a shipped wheel. I decided to buy locally -- even though I paid more -- knowing that I could get any problems that occured handled quickly and efficiently. Our time really is worth money, and being able to resolve problems by walking into a store as opposed to leaving unanswered messages on voicemail can be huge. Also, if your local suppier knows that you buy the big ticket stuff from them you're very likely to get better service overall as well as more help when you need it.
Robert - where it hit 70 degrees yesterday in Berkeley, California -- a beautiful spring day!

I'm convinced now to go through our local Ceramics Store.
I guess I should have asked them to order through Laguna on their next drop
shipment. the price and savings was the lure.
I did like the slabroller's features better over North's and Brent's.
Saving a grand was influencial, too.
Kim in Houston won't fret now, but; still waiting

Kim --
You've ONLY been waiting since October? I'm over the 6 month mark
waiting for mine. If you call repeatedly you will eventually get a
call or e-mail back. I'm getting tempted to hang it up and buy a
Bailey.
