Hi Sam and all,
I looked at macaloid the other day and it was $7/lb instead of $1/lb
for bentonite. Is it better than bentonite as a suspender?
.25% is so much less than the 2% you usually see for bentonite,
and would make up for the difference in price right there!

Hi Eleanora (et al ;-)
I really do use only 0.25% and find it works extremely
well. I personally find it works better than Bentonite
(based on my work, my glazes). Price has never
been a factor - though when you point it out, it surely
is the cheaper solution.

I use both in my glazes--2% of bentonite and 1% of macaloid. If I
forget one or the other, I get settling. If I HAD to use only one,
I'd use bentonite, but I really get better results with both. If you
don't have fritts in your glazes, it probably doesn't matter, but
since I use so much fritt, I need both.
