Hay Crew,

Wuhu, bet some of us are socked in ah? It finally snowed a little and is
staying below 20F. My heart goes out to you all down South, it don't get
that nasty up here. Keep the saw sharp and be careful!

A while back I searched youtube for "pottery" and think I found something
I saw as a kid, or maybe it was just stills, but I've always wanted to
see Shoji Hamada throw on the stick wheel and found this...

posted...

We are almost done with the tour of the Village. When I was a kid either
Dart or my high school teacher Ralph Hashoian suggested I apply for
summer work at the Henry Ford Museum Greenfield Village pottery, (now
"The Henry Ford" after a major renovation). Gorden O'Rear wouldn't take
me in the pottery but they hired me to demonstrate Silver Smithing, help
the tin type photographer, and demonstrate the Franklin printing press. I
think I could make 100 impressions an hour back then. I like how they
have it set up so old man Dan the print shop man can let the kids help.
Dan must be a retired printer cause he didn't hear too good but gives a
decent demonstration...

Well we start a new cycle of work, after taking a much needed rest. W*W
cut our hours so I started cleaning up the studio and house where I had
boxes of pots still packed from moves years ago and the stuff Mom had.
This is a strange experience holding 20, 30 or 40 year old pots I had not
seen in years. Now I understand what J.T. meant about keeping some pieces
for retirement. Even if we never sell them they hold so many memories it
would be hard to let them go. And they make good notes for future work
too. So I unpacked the old egg boxes, built a fire pit fire to burn the
newspapers and cardboard and refrigerator stuff and a pot I found that
needs work, spread the pots around the shop and added a bunch of shots to
Fotki. The lighting gets crummy but I tried a canvas back drop on some
for a change to see what would happen in my learning curve. Guess I
should wash and iron it. I think under florescent daylight bulbs is best
so far, until I get photo lights and a tent. There are a bunch more new
old pots here...

I included some marks I used over the years in case ya find one floating
around L.A. or near Southern Michigan. There are more but I haven't found
those pots yet.

Looks like me and Olof are gonna stay in for a while, he finally realized
how cold it is. Man did he pull a fast one the other day. I let him out
and watched as he headed straight for the shed. Sticking up through the
new snow were two pointed things that turned out to be tines on a nice 4
point skull cut rack with the tag still on it. I'm thinking Olof stole it
from the back of my landlords sons truck. He came up from Lansing and
would need the tag to cross the bridge with the rack if the DNR checked.
I'll have to do some more checking around. Could have been a wolf stole
it too, we saw some pretty big dog tracks out back, but I think the wolf
would have eaten it pretty quick... unless Treas Wabos Olof 'de Hounta
stole it from the wolf. I wouldn't put it past him to try, ah?

Have a productive start to the new year but don't work too hard, even
Wal*Mart will never make all the money in the world, it's just not that
important. Stay in there, ah!
