My Studio Potter magazine came Sat. and the theme is color and the whole =
issue is in color. There is a great article by Linda Arbuckle on page 5=
8 titled "Learning to use color" There are also articles about pottery f=
rom other countries.
The one that caught my eye was the one on pottery from the Sepic River of=
New Guinea.
I have 3 pieces from that area that I bought years ago from Dick and Bean=
y Wezelman of Berkeley. One piece is a bowl they call Kamana and the des=
ign on mine is the same as the one on page 20 of the article.
My bowl has a few cracks so I need to take special care in handling it.
If you want to get a copy of this latest Studio Potter you can contact th=
em at
subscriptions@studio potter.org
or write to Studio Potter, P. O. Box 352, Manchester, NH 03105
published semi-annually US $30 1 year $54 2 years.

barbara,
that article is great, and the pictures are beautiful!
if you have a similar bowl as the one on page 20,
you will be able to clear me up, is that the inside
of the bowl? if it is, than
probably the one on page 17 is another one with the inside
pictured, and i am assuming that all the rest of the photos
are taken from the bowls upside down, pictured with their
outside decoration?
so, these bowls are decorated both inside and outside?
the article says these bowls were made by women, and
men decorated the outsides when leatherhard.
(couldnt find out about the inside decoration...?)
i am confused now, for some reason i cannot see which is
inside and which is outside decoration.
thats a good reason for me to go and see them in person at the
minneapolis institute of arts' collection. but, until then:
can you tell us more about your bowl?
thanks barbara!

Barbara,
That is a beautiful issue of Studio Potter. I love it. Linda's
article was good and so are many others.
I'll go back to look at your pot.

I haven't made it to Linda Arbuckle's article yet, but have learned much from Lisa Orr's Synesthesia article and Steve Robert's writings on using a limited palette of colors. I'm reading each article twice and underlining the second time through. I'm sure Linda's article will be excellent.
The issue has changed the theme of my book on porcelain.
