Subject: Anagama Workshop with Jack Troy

Jack Troy workshop "Anticipate the Unexpected" Anagama
workshop at Eastern Kentucky University March 8-13, .
Thursday
March 8th: glazing in the studio and illustrated
lecture. Friday and Saturday March 9-10 loading.
Saturday evening to Tuesday night. (10th-13th) firing.
Unloading Sunday, March 18 after NCECA.

The workshop will cover all aspects of anagama
firing from firing with various types of wood,
aesthetics of natural ash and applied glazes,
loading for special effects, uses of saggers,
various firing protocols, and evaluation of finished
pieces. Brain-picking and impromptu
information-sharing will be encouraged. Slides
will cover historical precedents. The workshop is
limited to 16 participants, including the
instructors, and early registration is advised.
Any stoneware and porcelain clays rated for c/9 and
higher will be appropriate. Thrown and handbuilt
pieces should be bisqued, and fit in a box
approximately 24" square. Excessively thin,
fragile work will make loading especially
challenging; plates should be thick enough to be
fired on edge. Cost: $300 (does not include
housing and meals). Jack Troy, potter, teacher and
writer, is the author of Wood Fired Stoneware and
Porcelain; Gwendolyn yoppolo teaches ceramics at
Juniata College. Contact for questions or
registration: gwendolyn yoppolo at
gyoppolo@gmail.com or 814-643-2130
