The best and most tightly woven canvas we could find was from a store that specialized in nautical items---maybe for sails . It comes by the yard and is very wide. Tent and awning stores are another source.
Funny, but nice experience, one salesman got so caught up in what I was going to use the canvas for, he GAVE it to me. Some of that was left over from some cuttings.
