No doubt most of you NCECA-goers have already made your travel plans...but
for those of you with flexible schedules who are interested in kiln building=
and/or soda firing:
There are still a couple spaces open for the pre-NCECA soda kiln building
and soda firing workshops. See details below. Note that lodging is available=
on site and that you can bring bisqueware and also will have an opportunity
to make work in the studio.

The Mary Anderson Center for the Arts invites you to join Master Kiln
Builder Donovan Palmquist for two workshops before NCECA!
Workshop #1
BUILD-A-KILN! WORKSHOP
with Master Kiln Builder Donovan Palmquist. Gain hands-on experience in kiln=
building with a nationally recognized expert in the field. Donovan Palmquist=
is a soda-fire expert with over 30 years of experience and has built over
150 kilns nationwide. He=B9ll be teaching the principles of kiln building as=
you participate side-by-side in building a sprung-arch, hard-brick,
gas-fired salt/soda kiln. In addition to building the kiln, participants
will have full access to the clay studio to make pieces to be fired at the
end of the workshop.

(approximately 10am-6pm daily)

studio access and glazing

Workshop #2
FIRE-IT-UP! WORKSHOP
with Donovan Palmquist. Focus on making pieces and exploring surfaces
well-suited for firing in the newly constructed soda kiln. Donovan
Palmquist, a nationally-known soda-fire expert, will lead this workshop
which will include throwing, hand-building, glazing and firing. During the
week, he will also lead discussions on kiln construction, firing techniques
and firing theory. Donovan=B9s 30 years of experience in potting, kiln
building and firing will serve as a solid foundation for the workshop=B9s
activities. Workshops will be held in the newly renovated, professionally
equipped Barbara Hardy Clay Studio featuring=8Bamong other professional
equipment=8Ba dozen wheels, large and medium slab rollers and an extruder.

March 13 (hands on pot making

The Mary Anderson Center for the Arts is an artist retreat center and studio=
facility in scenic Southern Indiana, just minutes from downtown Louisville,
