Howdy y'all,

Okay got my Fluke digital thermometer now I need a good source for
those 8 AWG ceramic beaded thermocouples. I have found Omega.com but I
would have to piece together a rig. Axner doesn't give details about
their thermomcouples but the picture does show the TC with a ceramic
block. I can't tell if they have an extension wire with a
miniconnector. Anyone know wassup? I see Paragonweb has a new digital
thermometer with probe but it only goes up to 1999F and I can't tell
how robust the thermmocouple is. Arnold?

Taylor,
Check out
http://www.wardburner.com/otherproducts/pyrometerscontrollers.html
From your question I'm not sure what type
thermocouple you are after. I have found the Type K
in 1/8-inch diameter wire are sufficiently durable and
accurate for my needs. I don't think they are
accurate enough for crystal glaze firing.
Good firing,
Dave Finkelnburg

Hello Taylor:

I recently bought one of the less expensive pyrometers from Axner (can't
recall the name right now) and a thermocouple. The thermocouple came with
a ceramic shield over its probe, and a ceramic terminal block -- pretty
much as pictured in the catalog. There's about a four foot length of wire
with a male mini plug matching the meter's female socket attached.
I "abraded" the end off a peep plug by scrubbing it on the driveway
concrete until the hole was big enough, then poked the probe through a
peep. It works fine like that, but it would be better with a wad of
kaowool stuffed into the peep plug to seal the opening around the probe.

If you need more info contact me off list and I'll tell you everything I
know.
