Sorry Patrick, but imagine how happy you would have been if
you had not seen those auctions until they were posted on Clayart.
You prob won't get much competition because of the shipping on all that
heavy
stuff.

I shot my post out too fast, here it is in full.

I am rebuilding/converting an old updraft gas kiln ( I believe it to be an
Aim) for
Raku so am always interested in refractory stuff. Even though I am fairly
finished
with the body.
I was going to just use the base and build a wire framed/ceramic fiber lift
off top
but after firing with a friend who has a 26 inch kiln of that type and
feeling that blast of heat as the
top is lifted I decided to keep the soft brick shell and added a 6 inch deep
fiber top.

I put it on a metal wheeled base so I can roll it out to the drive for
firing. Got that idea
when I saw Eric's at Mudfire in Atlanta. His has a very fancy gantry system
for
lifting the whole kiln body up.

The Aim? has three burners pointing up through the floor although I haven't
had a real
firing in it yet I'm thinking it won't take all three for a raku firing.
They each have a
valve. It is propane. I do hope to have a test firing before NCECA so I
can tap
the information pool with some experience.

I would like to hear from someone who has tried this and their
results/recommendations.

Angela Davis

I am going to try and post photos of my kiln on my Ebay blog, check it out
if your interested.
