cabinet knobs, web site

So today I finally put up a fairly complete presentation of the cabinet knob
project I have been working on for the last few years. It really has
mushroomed into, for my scale of operation, a massive commitment of time and
resources. I've spent every waking hour of the last seven days just taking
pictures, getting them web ready, and crafting the web pages and links... A
more skilled webmaster would have undoubtedly had more economical ways of
getting this all done, but I couldn't figure out a more economical approach
than to do it myself.

If you have the time to help me with troubleshooting, take a look at:

www.mcdowellpottery.com/Cabinet_Knobs.htm

My next project will be to learn how to create a shopping cart sophisticated
enough to handle keeping track of inventory, class wide quantity discounts,
etc. I've been using PayPal's shopping cart for my pottery, but I need a
more full featured cart to handle all the different things I do. I know
there are some pretty sharp webcrafters who also share about clay. If anyone
has expertise to share about these shopping cart issues, either on or off
the list, I'm all ears...

Michael, your website looks pretty good to me, it loads
quickly and the pics are good. I don't know anything
about the paypal stuff, but no doubt someone(s) will and
help out there.

I do hope you are well - my best, as always - Dannon

Hi Michael, I'm very impressed with your beautiful array of knobs.
I was surprised that you could click on a knob in the photo and see it
enlarged. I don't think I had seen that web feature before.

The collection photos seemed a bit dark on my laptop screen, might just be
my eyes. I think you might feature an individual knob or 2 on your home
page
instead of just the whole collection. They are beautiful and would be more
attractive than the board with just an impression of what it holds. Grab
their attention
quickly so they will want to see more.

The amount of work you have put into your site shows and I am paying close
attention because I
want to do one soon.

Your volcanic ash glaze is luscious as is the layered iron, I imagined
myself refacing my
cabinet fronts in white just to show them off.

A hearty thank you to you all for checking out my upgraded web presentation
of my cabinet knob project. Just yesterday and today I've had something like
275 visitors to the page. Many of you made useful suggestions. As a result I
have made some changes. I got rid of the little thumbnail images of the
board with knobs as everyone seemed to agree that it was not a strong visual
image. I've replaced them with images of individual knobs. Then I've also
gone in to every closeup page for individual knobs and made sure the name of
the glaze is right there alongside the image.

I'm still searching for the right shopping cart solution. I need to be able
to limit purchases to no more than the quantity available for each knob, I
need to have separate classes of products because shipping and pricing are
very different for say my funeral urns as opposed to my cabinet knobs, then
I need to be able to figure "classwide quantity discounts" if I am to be
able to keep my current pricing structure on the knobs. All this is
available in some shopping cart solutions I have seen, but so far I haven't
found one with these features that doesn't also force me to accept major
formatting changes in the way my website looks. I like the look and feel of
the site I have got. Does anybody know where I should look for the kind of
cart I'm after?

Michael,
Check with the post office.
At least for now, they offer
priority mail service at a flat
rate of $8.10 per box.
Ideal for small items like knobs
since you can fit a lot of value
in a small box.
We use their clik-n-ship web
page and print the labels here.
They also pick up all the boxes
the next day by carrier.
