i have more than enough ideas...for a lifetime.

i have five glazes made, new ideas.
totally.
they have graced 80 pots.
some big. all re/cycled clay from winter throwing.
dark brown/iron bearing with lots of grog and sand...rough.

i will fill the kiln and fire on saturday.
10 new mugs.
and some dandy new shapes.
some rather nice bottle shapes...things i do not
do every day.

so.
we shall see.
i have a `found object glaze` from otto heino.
susan karrash found it in an old note book from
her days in california. (60's)
it has 20 percent soda ash. it could be a dandy.

kathy mac\donald sent me a neat blue and i will
do a `knighten glaze` too.
dannon sent me a val cushing blue green, and i have
altered my copper red...added a bit more tin.
it seems to follow ron's lead with additional tin.
....i turned my iron red into a rich black...added black copper ox
and chrome...10 percent.
it is a stable base, so i am sure it will work.
just kept it off the bases of pots.
john britt has given me a couple of neat ideas.
and about 10 others...i do not have the notes here, they
are out in the studio.
i know it is almost 50 pages of printed information.
again.
thanks...it has been a fun and interesting project.
if i get a dozen really good pots...i will be thrilled.

at my age, i can afford to just have a firing for interest.

have a wonderful customer that is moving to montana...so
she stopped today and went out of my studio with 40 pots.
nice pay day.
mel.
it is my job to test and make stuff that many would
never try...and like tony says...he cannot afford to fill a kiln
for fun...it may be too costly...and i understand that..so i will
do it for him. if there is something totally wonderful i will publish
it to you all.

I've been testing glazes also.

Forty five ^6 crystalline glazes this past 30 days or so.
^10 is easy, ^6 is a challenge.

Altering material proportions, trying new frits, messing with firing
schedule. A few beauties, several dogs, many having been fired 2 or 3 times,
looking for that "look".

This is the thinking part, throwing I leave to the hands,
they're in charge then.

I do this for me, but also for my students.
I will have a class next fall.
An entire semester, ^6 crystalline glazes, have done it twice before.

I am very fortunate - I have a place that pays me to do something I love.
