Does anyone know where I could do a pit fire around New Jersey? I heard from
somewhere that fires on beaches aren't allowed. Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks!

You might want to contact the Monmouth County Park System here in NJ. =
http://www.monmouthcountyparks.com//> Their crafts center has a pottery department that does pit fires so=

Hi Myrna,

I am in Frenchtown. It is on the Delaware a little north of Lambertville.

I am not sure of the L/B process for permission. We are doing the firing at a students home. He has a nice fire pit and uses it often with no problem from the authorities. I do not anticipate any problems. I guess you could check with your local fire marshal to get the scoop for firing in your area.
I do raku firings at area schools and the school does the work to get the proper permits. In some areas, nothing is required and at other schools, the fire inspector comes out to check out the setup and issues a permit. It is really pretty easy as long as you follow the fire inspectors instructions.

Good luck,

John
