In a workshop I did with Jerry Caplan using slip as a resist and paper to
smoke we quickly removed all the pieces from the kiln with gloves so as not
to disturb the by then fragile and delicately placed slip. The pieces were
taken to 1300 F because that was all that was necessary to ignite paper.
Could this be a solution for the fragile horsehair pieces you all do so
beautifully. I've only played with horsehair raku a couple of times. Both
times I loaded the pieces on the top shelf of my electric kiln, took them to
temp and lifted them out with gloves because I am notorious for doing
surgery with tongs. Mary
