Has anybody had a thought about doing an empty bowls in New Orleans like we
had in Charlotte? Surely they could use it, and this group could come up
with some smashing work for the cause.

I have assisted in coordinating Empty Bowls in San Antonio, Tx. This year
we raised over $20,000.00 for the SAMMinistries (the local homeless and
rehab center). It was our 7th year. I lived in New Orleans for 39 years
and will do what I can to help. Taaffe in San Antonio

There will be a website at www.10000hands.org. There is a placeholder=20=

there now as the site has not been finished. John had a page at his=20
booth describing it. It will be called 10,000 Hands in Service to New=20
Orleans. It's to be done prior and during NCECA.

The goal is to:

=95 raise $100,000 or more for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater=20=

New Orleans and Acadiana
=95 engage students in powerful crafts-based service-learning activities=20=

through Empty Bowls events at area schools
=95 create relationships and projects with sister schools
=95 partner ceramic artists with local arts educators and students in=20
pre-conference collaborations to produce projects such as permanent=20
tile, bas-relief, site specific ceramic installations
=95 sponsor free ceramic workshops for New Orleans area crafts people
=95 donate all supplies, tools, and equipment needed for each workshop =
to=20
the local institutions

How you can participate:

=95 Donate a $20 bowls. If every 2008 conference attendee brings one =20
bowl to donate to an Empty Bowls (www.emptybowls.net) exhibition and=20
sale and then buys one bowl at $20, that's $100,000.
=95 Volunteer to be a ceramic artist-in-the schools and help a local=20
school hold their own Empty Bowls event. These events could raise a=20
great deal more awareness and money, and the students, through=20
service-learning projects, would learn they can make a difference in=20
their community while learning, with your help, to make better pots.
=95 Sponsor one of the workshop proposals posted by the local=20
organizations
=95 Design and post a workshop of your own on the website

Basically that's almost all of the brochure John had.

FYI: The information I typed was from a handout from John Hartom at the
conference. Save the website www.10000hands.org and when it's up and
running there will be more up-to-date information. I am not a part of
it nor am I volunteering to lead the charge. I was providing
information handed out at the conference. The information I typed was
from The Imagine Render Group. PO Box 1689, Burnsville NC 28714.

At the bottom it says - "The Imagine Render Group will help plan and
promote 10,000 Hands to Service to New Orleans but neither Imagine
Render nor NCECA will be responsible for individual projects. The
responsibility lies with the groups(s) pledging to undertake each
projects."
