leach - edmund de waal ?

British potter Edmund De Waal ( I hope I have the right spelling) wrote a book several years ago on Leach.
I attended a workshop at Longwood University in Farmville, Va several years back and he and Julian Stairs, another potter made teapots. Edmund uses sterling silver handles for his pots....lovely - anyway...he was/is a disciple of Leach. Google De Waal/Leach...title of book should come up.

I don't think so. He has written some very negative things about Leach.

obviously he has many thoughts about Leach, then...as the workshop he presented contained many references to Leach and none of us gathered that he didn't like him. My use of the word disciple is overstated then. Thank you for bringing up this point as I have not been able to obtain a copy of this book by Edmund, but with his promotion of it in the workshop, I assumed....hmmm and one should never assume, heh?...that he held Leach in great esteem - but as I said, his conversations of Leach at the workshop were matter-of-fact, nothing condemning or cynical - just a British potter commenting on the works of another British potter.
NOW I do have to find that BOOK!!! :)

Someone else once said he apprenticed with Shimaoka too. But that
is not true either.

I put both names in Amazon. Miricle! :

http://www.amazon.com/St-Ives-Artists-Bernard-Leach/dp/1854372270/

I would recommend Cooper's book on Leach.. Cooper had access
through the Leach family, to papers nobody else has been able to use.

http://www.amazon.com/Bernard-Leach-Life-Emmanuel-Cooper/dp/0300099290/

Cooper explains that Leach and Janet wanted to settle down in
Kyoto ( Janet didn't want to go back to St. Ives), but Yanagi wouldn't
help them because he thought the Japanese would ignore him if he moved
here. But living in England, he was "The Sage of England."
