The only "grey" glazes I have seen were actually clear glazes over
stoneware clays fired in a reducing gas kiln. The clay protected by the
glaze remains grey, and the unprotected clay shows a nice toasty brown.
This works really well for slip application in white or blue with
sgraffito work showing up as an analogous grey.
