I'm working on a ceramic mural with my ceramics professor and have been
given the assignment of tracking down an underglaze recipe that she recalls
seeing but can't remember where. She thought you all might be able to help.
What she remembers is that one of the distinguishing ingredients is laundry
starch (Sta-Puf(?)) and that it uses stains as the colorant. I know it's
not much to go on, but I'm hoping it rings a bell with someone out there.
TIA for any help!

I'm working on a ceramic mural with my ceramics professor. She wishes to
make her own underglazes rather than use commercial underglazes and I have
been given the assignment of tracking down an underglaze recipe that she
recalls seeing but can't remember where. She thought you all might be able
to help. What she remembers is that one of the distinguishing ingredients
is laundry starch (Sta-Puf(?)) and that it uses stains as the colorant. I
know it's not much to go on, but I'm hoping it rings a bell with someone out
there. Interestingly, I have looked at a number of books and have yet to
find a recipe of any sort for making one's own underglazes, yet alone the
particular one she remembers. Are their reasons why ceramists would use
commercial underglazes rather than formulating their own?
TIA for any help!
