ADRIAN MOULD on thu 8 aug 96

Hello all,
I'am new to clayart and I'm hoping that someone out there can help me.
I'm planning to travel to the south west of America and England at
the start of next year. I am hoping to meet some potters during my
trip and to get some short term work to help me on my way.
Any ideas for work opportunities longer term in England or must see
sights on my travels would be great.
I hope to hear from you all
Adrian Mould

A suggestion for those visiting London is to go to Contemporary Ceramics
on Marshall street and pick up the newest edition of "Potters", the
directory of the Craft Potters Association. You may even be able to scour
out an old copy through your library or by interlibrary loan. Look to find
work that suits you and make contact.

Wanted - Used Electric Kiln

I need a used 3-phase electric kiln, preferrably a few years old, good
condition, 23-3/8"/28" round/dec, 27" depth, 208 volts. If you have one
or know of one for sale, please contact Victor or Donna at 805-388-5248
or e-mail brahma@claystone.com.

I am ready to start putting together a studio in my basement, and would
appreciate any advice about purchasing an electric wheel, an electric
kiln, and set-up in tight quarters. I would also be interested in
hearing of used equipment for sale within a five-hour drive of
Philadelphia.

There should be a lot in the archives as this has come up often.
1. You need tons of shelves, so plan them in. I have shelves all around
working spaces wherever possible.
2. Make sure you get an envirovent or similar kiln venting system to
send the fumes outside.
3. Here's what I did and found, and you can learn good and bad.
Put the "making" room in an old bedroom. Wheel, shelves, tables,
underglazes, clay, slabroller, extruder all in there. Fits fine in
about a 10x10 room. I planned to do all the work there, including
glazing, and just fire my kiln in the garage (with an envirovent). But
you get tired of clibming stairs with ware very quickly. So once the
item is dry, it does to the garage for bisquing. The bisque stays there
on shelves until I glaze it (glaze on folding card tables in the
garage). The glazed pieces stay there on sheves until I get rid of
them.
In other words, clay goes up once the stairs raw, down the stairs dry,
then stay in the garage for the rest of it's life to avoid another trip.
This may not map exactly to your situation, but think about the work
flow and how to minimize carrying from place to place.

I've decided to get back into ceramics after a 35 year hiatus as a
graphic designer. I am looking for a used shimpo and electric kiln to
