-Maurice, I disagree with you there. Cost of living has skyrocketed
and the living wages has not kept up with it at all. Living wages is
20-30 years behind times. Federal proverty level for a family of
three is 17,thousand regardless of where they live. Tell me if you
can make a go on that salary living in Long Island and I will eat my
words. Literally living on the beach doesn't count. Kathryn Hughes in

Health Insurance Coverage

Overview

a.. The percentage of the nation's population without health insurance
coverage remained unchanged, at 15.7 percent in 2004.

b.. The percentage of people covered by employment-based health insurance
declined from 60.4 percent in 2003 to 59.8 percent in 2004.

c.. The percentage of people covered by government health insurance
programs rose in 2004, from 26.6 percent to 27.2 percent, driven by
increases in the percentage of people with Medicaid coverage, from 12.4
percent in 2003 to 12.9 percent in 2004.

d.. The proportion and number of uninsured children did not change in
2004, remaining at 11.2 percent or 8.3 million.
I believe what all children need is total coverage of all their physical and
mental health care needs including eye care and dental care. I know damn
well this country can afford it.

This is really not clay-related at all. There are many forums online for
discussing the healthcare situation.

James, we have Minnesota Care here. When I left Mn 8 years ago, only
children and mothers were eligible. Now, anybody below 150% of
poverty can be eligible.

I am guessing many potters (actually supporting themselves with
their work) are eligible, especially young folks right out of college
getting their start.

If Minnesota care is funded by the federal SCHIP program then be aware that
the president has threatened to veto the funding bill for SCHIP if it gets
to his desk. There is a lot of false advertising concerning this bill and
the funding for various parts of it.

I really have to agree with Holly on this one. Please keep the subject line
the same so I can delete it without reading.
