I am looking for information on cystalline glazes in the form of books,
magazine articles, etc... If you have any ideas on these resources then
please let me know. As I look around my neck of the woods here in Maine I
have seen a trend and I want to get on the train before it is too late! I
love experimenting with glazes and firing schedules but I don't have time
to reinvent the wheel on every turn.. All comments on crystalline glazes
and FIRING SCHEDULES will be most appreciated.... ...Marshall

There was an article in CM last year? written by Julie Brooke on not only
crystal glazes but doing reduction with an oil drip method to produce red and
almost bronze colored pieces with big crystals.
Also, My boss/teacher, John Conrad, was doing crystals 20 years ago....was
well known at that time for small neck crystal glazed vases, but says now
there are so many potters doing it he wanted to explore other areas. He was
used as a technical consultant by some company in china a few years back to
help straighten out whatever problem they were having. He has written 6 or 7
books so I will guess that one of them may be on crystals.....I know one of
them has to have some info on it. I have some handouts somewhere from a slide
lecture that he and Julie Brooke did together. I'll never find them right
now.....if you still can't find info in another month then ask me again & I
will look for them.
All I know myself Is the mix needs be to mixed fresh. We keep a mix of the
base, dry. Then add colorants to small batch when ready to glaze. Need a
catch basin because they run like crazy. I don't remember what was mixed with
elmers glue to attach pot to basin before glazing.
good luck!
