cone advice -- asap

Hello friends,

I need some quick advice, please. I just had to suspend firing my salt kiln
-- equipment problems we couldn't overcome on a late Sunday afternoon. At
the time I turned it off, cone 02 was soft. Assuming that we can get the
needed replacement parts and start the kiln up again late tomorrow (or
perhaps Tuesday morning early) will it be okay to leave the current cone
pads in place and just go ahead. I can make an educated guess about early
temps without cones to read. Will the high fire cones (9 - 10- 11) still
read true after heating to 02 and then cooling?

Please let me know ASAP, as if all goes well, I hope to get this thing going
again before it cools enough to open it and replace cones!

Thanks,
Nan

I regularly bisque fire my cone 10 cones to cone 06.
It sounds like you never got much over cone 06,
so the high fire cones should be fine.

I'm not a refractory expert, but I don't see why they wouldn't. No length =
of=20
time at Cone 02 would cause that Cone 9 to bend.

Nan,

I say "yes", just fire again and trust your instincts about the lower
temperatures of the firing. The higher cones will read accurately.
