used kilns: advice please

updated sat 8 may 10

Hi, all,

I am going to look at two used kilns, both about the same price, $200 or so=
.
One is an Evenheat ceramic kiln, listing here:
http://baltimore.craigslist.org/art/1722523912.html.

The other is a J Series EconoKiln with a P-10 kiln sitter: listing here:
http://baltimore.craigslist.org/art/1709261811.html

I've contacted both people. The Evenheat is still being used but the person
is downsizing. The EconoKiln has been sitting for a while but comes with
shelving and other things.

Any advice?

Thanks for any help.

All else being equal, I'd get the L&L. They are funny-
looking kilns, but those element holders are fabulous!

However, all may not be equal. You can't tell much
from photos of the outside. Inside is what matters.
Check the condition of the elements and the bricks.
Condition will probably be your deciding factor.

Still, consider how much furniture (shelves/posts)
each comes with. That's money you'll have to spend
if they aren't included, (unless you already have
plenty that size) so consider that in the total cost.

I'd recommend going with the L&L.
Larger and you get furniture.
Looks in decent shape.
You will have more control of heating and cooling with the infinite
switches.
With the Evenheat, it's much smaller and switches are simply off/on, not
much control there.
