I've been teaching pottery for over 10 yrs, and have been quite cavalier
in my stacking of the bisque kiln. So long as there is expansion room
between the pieces, ie. smaller bowls inside of larger, smaller plates
on top of wider, etc. I sometimes stack them 5 high, and have never had
any problems with cracking, after firing literally thousands of pieces.
I am a little more aware of thin, flat pieces, not putting heavier, more
dense things on top, however. Makes for nice full, well heated kiln
loads.
Good luck, from icky Seattle. Pam
