I've just bought myself a little used Skutt ceramic kiln.
It's approx 17 X 23 (has a top extra ring). It has no
insulation between the bricks and metal - so am assuming
this ain't no ^10 kiln ;-)
Anyway, I want your help/suggestions with what to turn this
into. I'm not a fan of Raku - so that's out. It has a dryer
plug so can be used as a bisque only kiln. OR can I put it
on rollers and take it outside, spray it with ITC and run it
up to ^10 and throw in wood? Will it even do that? Or perhaps
?????
This is where you guys come in. Please tell me what is/isn't
feasable with my new toy (I paid $150 Canadian, so am quite
willing to experiment wildly with it). Bricks are in darn
good condition too. Perhaps I should just turn around and
sell it? That too is an option (though I intend to make a
profit on sale ;-)
So come on - let's have some FUN!!

Sam, Since this kiln is wired for a 30amp outlet I would guess that it was
rated for cone 8. Lightly loaded, it should reach the cone 6 to 7 range in
reasonable time. I like your idea of ITC treatment and a final stage of wood
reduction firing. Wood will burn nicely at cone 6, nothing sacrosanct about
cone 10 for this kind of fun.
