looking for solution regarding firing

Hello all,
I'm going to be moving out to Riverside come about the middle of
July, and was wondering if you all knew of the cheapest, smallest firing
method? I'm going to be living in an apartment, and also I can't really
afford to set up a major arrangement. But I'd like to at least do
hand-built work even if it doesn't work for me to get hooked up with a
class or somesuch. I thought when I saw your discussion on no-fire clay
that that might hold promise, but looking at what you've said the
consensus seems to be against it and that it's not viable. Any other
suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Theresa

Try a small weber BBQ using a little sawdust and charcoal.

Theresa ,
Can you build a little kiln , say 4 blocks , and a bottom and a top .
Elements and connections , will reach 1280 deg.c .
Objects can be 4 x 4 x 4 inches [ max ] and
you could use say a feldspar at 90 % plus 10 %
bentonite as a body [ pinch pots , tea bowls , bonsai pots ,
and so on ] , do electric reduction , lustre ware at 750 deg .c
terra sigillata , burnished ware , low fire translucent ware .
If you need formulas , be glad to help .
From - Khaimraj Seepersad .

Sundance Glass Company at www.artglass1.com have several table-top
kilns for under $300. One at $219! They are small but plug into a
standard outlet and could do the job for you. They have a nice on-line
catalog for you to view.

Theresa,
They're not the cheapest, but the smallest firing method I know of is
those microwave oven kilns the glass-fusing folks use. I don't have the
information ready to hand, but you could probably find out more from a
stained-glass supplier's website. More than likely, some Clayarter will jump
in with details.
