Greetings,

I haven't seen this discussed on the list yet... Maybe
it has been, but I've missed it... If so, please
ignore my post, I'm just concerned and thought that
with so many crafts persons who put images of their
work on the web, this information should come to the
attention of as many people as possible...

The following is a direct quote from the
Yahoo-Geocities revised terms of service agreement...

>8. CONTENT SUBMITTED TO YAHOO

>By submitting Content to any Yahoo property, you
>automatically grant, or warrant that the owner of
such
>Content has expressly granted, Yahoo the
royalty-free,
>perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive and fully
>sublicensable right and license to use, reproduce,
>modify,adapt, publish, translate, create derivative
>works from, distribute, perform and display such
>Content (in whole or part) worldwide and/or to
>incorporate it in other works in any form, media, or
>technology now known or later developed.

As I'm reading this, by posting any information,
graphics, etc to any Yahoo owned site you grant them
the right to use your creative efforts as they see
fit. They can copy, modify, sell, and/or liscence
others to copy, modify, or sell ANYTHING which you
post, forever. Since Geocities is now a Yahoo
property, those of you with Geocities pages might want
to think about the impact of this clause on your
artistic rights.

I have seen discussion in other forums which implies
that this policy is becoming a standard of opperations
amongst providers of free websites... Below is the
section of the Tripod Terms of Service which relates
to their rights to use your content. I copied this
from their website directly into this message. I am
not in any way affiliated with Tripod, (I don't even
have a website with Tripod at this time.) I just
wanted to include as much information as possible.

>c) By submitting a Member Web Page to Tripod, you
>grant Tripod and its affiliates a royalty-free,
>nonexclusive, worldwide, unrestricted license to use,

>copy, transmit, and distribute the content for the
>limited purposes of displaying and promoting the
>user's personal homepage and for displaying the
>content of such personal homepages elsewhere within
>the Lycos Network. The term of the license will
>extend only for the duration of the Tripod
membership.
>In the event that the Tripod membership is terminated

>for any reason, Tripod and its affiliates will
>relinquish all rights to the member content as
>described above following the duration of any
>applicable promotional activities ongoing at the time

>the membership is terminated.

Good luck in all your web endeavors.

Andi.
