looking for info on natural lowfire slips

A friend here in Oaxaca, Angelica Vasquez, perhaps one of the most
talented sculptural potters in Mexico, is looking for ways to naturally
color her pieces. She's only interested in natural colors, either mineral or
plant derived- She can currently get tan, red, white and a salmony pink from
the clays she's found. In the Oaxaca museum she was seeing some
pre-Columbian pieces with BLACK painted on them. She'd love to know how to
get black naturally.
Any ideas, sources or help will be very much appreciated.

gracias, Eric Mindling
