from lazer printer to bisque

updated thu 15 jun 00

africaunusual@MWEB.CO.ZA on sat 10 jun 00

I have been reading with interest the thread of transferring
photocopies to bisque.
Now, on a Saturday afternoon I got a bee in my bonnet that I
wanted to try it NOW!
NOW figures large in my life when I have a bee in my bonnet but I
don't have a photocopier to hand and I don't have any oil of
Wintergreen either. but those of us who suffer from the NOW
syndrome also inevitably suffer from the" let's try with what is to
hand"
So I printed something on my lazer printer, put it picture side down
on a bisque tile and rubbed the back of the paper with eucalyptus
oil.
A beautiful clear image came through, now to see if it survives a
low fire, but I am thinking that I will let the eucalyprus evaporate
and go over the image with oxide.
Toni feeling very chuffed with myself that I indulged my NOW
syndrome!

Will the image really become permanent? Can you put a clear glaze over it
and fire it?

Toni:

Laser printer will work just like a copier as it has the same powdered ink and heat
fusion process. So even if you were suffering NOW syndrome you were half right. You
don't really need a copier just its technology. Eucalyptus oil - I can't tell you
about. But let me know if it works as I do have some of that.

You can put a clear glaze over it and fire it but unfortunatly it seems as
every clear glaze I have tried bleaches out the image. I have only tried it
with Hewlett Packard toner cartriges so maybe a differeht one might be
better.
As far as being permanent I made an image on a glazed tile as an overglaze
and it has been sitting exposed outside for 4 yearsand still looks as good
as new. The image is iron oxide. I was using the loose unfused toner method
on a commercial wall tile 12 x12 inches.

I don't know if it will become permanent with eucalyptus oil instead of
wintergreen, but the laser printer can be used in place of a copier.

Hi Anji
I actually was quite keen to "lose" the transfer lines for my specific
idea which is to do "portraits" of actual dogs for show dog owners.
I painted just inside the lines with underglaze and did my best to
get the dogs variation of colour from the photograph. Now to answer
your question, I did "lose" the lines at ^06 but have not yet tried at
a lower temp.
Now I want to try the transfer on top of an already glazed
something and refire at a much lower temp. Want to know the
results when I do?
Have fun and good luck
Toni
