Aiko,
The International Workshop for Ceramics in Tokoname (IWCAT) should be in
progress now - and may still be going during part of your friend's vacation.
There are always several American's involved and most of the IWCAT
organizers speak some English. They have a web site. There is also a
terrific ceramic festival - which is huge - and takes place in August (if I
remember correctly).

I'm not familiar with any workshops here in Mashiko at the current time.
But then, I'm pretty consumed by my studies and don't have time to get out
much. Mashiko's summer Masturi is just beginning and I have a couple days
off in a row. If I get to the Matsuri (gotta do work on my house and
workshop first) I'll try to ask some potters.
