looking for chopsticks

I am looking for a new source of chopsticks. If someone knows of a reliable
source, could your please send me the contact information. I have been using
Wakasanuri chopsticks. I believe that is the name of the style of these
chopsticks. At this point the style is not as important as a source as my
supply is quickly shrinking. My previous supplier has stopped importing
them, and I have not been able to find a new source.

Thanks in advance.

Bob,

Dick Yamane & Associates in Seattle Washington had a very nice selection of
quality chop sticks. Contact Eileen Tokita at 6100 4th Ave So. Suite 105
Seattle WA 98108 Phone 1-800 888-9150 206-763-9150 Fax 206-767-8051

I don't know if the 800 # works from Canada and don't know how buying from a
US company will work for you.

It is strictly a wholesale place and they require some proof that you're in
business. They are open Mon-Fri

Bob, no, i don't know any source. if you need only a few pairs, you can get
them at any japanese or oriental grocery stores, as you know. but, wow, what
do you do with so many chopsticks? just curious.
how do you use and lose so many pairs of chopsticks (in short time?) ? (i'm
assuming you are not giving them away.)
i've been using my own pair (japanese-lacquer (urushi) coated) for more than
16 years. yes, it cost me $10 to $20 a pair. yes, i also use a few other
pairs (uncoated), but they have been with me similarly long. i also use a
few pairs of simple but decent quality bamboo chopsticks (wari-bashi) i got
from some take-out chinese restaurants, well more than several years. (yes,
i wash them by hands, and do not leave them in water.) your old
"wakasa-nuri" must be urushi coated chopsticks made in wakasa (old name for
fukui prefecture) area should last hundred years if you do not wash with hot
water.
do you use them in some of your clay pots? how, if you do? just curious.
my suggestion: any oriental restaurant-supply shop, if you have in your
local area, should be a good source if you are looking for "wari-bashi"
one-time throw-away chopsticks, and not for ever-lasting ***-nuri
chopsticks.

Hi Ingeborg

Thanks for taking the time to find the information on a chopstick source for
me. I will be checking them out to see if they can help me.

Hi Terry:

Thanks for responding to my request about chopsticks. You are right about
the chopsticks I use as been lacquered. Most are also inlaid with shells and
scraped to reveal different coloured layers of lacquer. Others have painted
decorations in gold and other colours. I think I paid about $1.50 cdn a pair
for my last batch. Sad to loose that source.
I don,t buy them for my own use. The plain bamboo sticks seem more practical
to me.
I make rice bowls and sushi plates which I sell with the chopsticks. The
chopsticks sell a lot of pots. The customers really like the lacquered
sticks. I tried the bamboo sticks once, almost put my customers to sleep. I
also have a friend who makes raku geisha masks with chopsticks stuck in the
hair.

Thanks again for your response.
