acually.....prison pots seem to me to be a pretty good idea.....I was on
the small island of Dominica a few years ago and followed a primitive hand
painted sign saying 'pots'....down dirt lanes to a makeshift store front
with lots of mugs and goblets....rustic to be sure...no one spoke
English (and I speak NO patois)....but there was a sign indicating the
pots were made in the Dominica Prison pottery......has to be more creative
than making licenses plates!!!!

LOL, actually the prison outside Vegas does make ceramic
pieces for the tourist industry here. They are little
cowboy hobo type characters with a live cactus growing out
of the front of their pants.....

I worked in a prison ministry for a couple of years using a lump of clay
greenware, and finished peice of pottery as a visual aids to demonstrate the
relationship between man and God.

I had the pleasure of meeting a very creative person who carved their soap
into the most unusual works of art using his pen and pencil. Some of the his
works were so real I suggested that he try working in clay.He said several
of the inmates had tried to start a workshop but to many of the tools could
be used as weapons......

It is hard life behind bars and certainly many of the folks there are
paying for their trangressions against society but I couldn't help thinking
how many artist are lost.
