spam with arti's name on it to my address

updated wed 27 jun 01

Earl Brunner on thu 21 jun 01

I have heard that you do not want to reply and tell people to take you
off their list. when you do that they then know that they have a live
email address.
I suspect that there are computer programs out there that can tap into
something like the archives and extract all e-mail addresses form the
text. Mail is then sent to all addresses.

The email I got was addressed to me, not to you.

hi all-

Obviously I got the same piece of
information
about stone products, and I don't remember
arti's name
on it. I deleted it quickly after I replied no
thanks,
and expect to be taken off the list. I did
wonder how
it got to me, since I rarely get unsolicted e
mail. I
didn't realize that you all got something
addressed to
me. How can that be? If it was sent to clayart,
everyone would have gotten it. What does that
imply?
I am no computer expert, but if other people on
clayart got e mail addressed to me, does that
mean
that someone has the ability to get the list's
names
and send it to everyone on the list through me?
Or to
people I send e mail to? Probabally not, since i
don't
think i have ever sent pammyam anything
directly.
Again, I don't remember arti's name on it.
And I don't have it to refer to.
So this is a bit of a mystery. I will contact
ben
and this evening, (thanks for the address pam),
and
see what's up.

Gerrg is my boy scout name. I have been a
scoutmaster and Advisor to the Order of the
Arrow,
(for older boys), for many years now. When I
rejoined
as an adult, (I was an eagle scout as a youth),
they
said i needed a name tag. When they gave it to
me, it
said 'Gerrg'. I said, whoa, that's not my name.
'Oh',
they said, 'sorry, we'll get you a new one'.
Rather
than go without, I wore that one. I met LOTS of
new
people in short order. About a year later, my
new
nameplate spelled 'Gregg' came. I looked at it
and
said, 'that's not my name, I'm now known far and
wide
at 'Gerrg'. (pronounced Grrrrrrr g). thus,

Twice I got a message from a "company" that for 39$ a month they will push
me up -hill in the search engines. They wrote: "If you want to be out of our
mailing list call this number" I sent back the e mail and got an
administrator note that it could not be delivered. From the list of the
people on the e mail I know, they have got it from the Israeli ceramics
site. (Does Anyone remember "E glaze"? the parents of "ceramics"-spam!)

Gregg wondered how they could send the same message to individuals on the list and not show all the people that the spam was sent to. There is a way to 'blind copy' a message by using parenthesis around an email address inside the 'copy to' box, thereby hiding that address from everyone else This is in AOL instructions but must have similar applications on other servers because I get some messages from a local organization that I know is being sent to multiple people and the sender is not on AOL.
