to re-bisque or not?

First..I read ClayArt daily...thanks for all the knowledge you guys share!
I've learned so much here and avoided many mistakes!!

Second..a question. I have a really nice lidded jar that I've gotten very
attached to. Unfortunately, the lid handle came off after it was bisque
fired (cone 06 ox). I have re-attached it using the clay/vinegar/corn
syrup mix...wow...that stuff turns to cement!!! Now, my question is: Is
it better to re-bisque fire the piece before glazing or to go ahead and
glaze over the repair??

I would like to know the recipe for the clay/vinegar/corn syrup mix to
patch things. Also, what cone can the patch be fired to? Can it only
be used on bisque, or can you tint it with glaze and fire it to Cone 5
or 6?

Thanks.

Karen

Mary,
Just go ahead and glaze fire your lid.
Depending on how the lid handle was attached, another way of getting it
back on the lid, would have been to put a little glaze between the handle
and the lid. During the glaze firing the glaze would bond the two together.

Karen,
Here is another recipe for bisque repair which is good to cone 10

Bisque repair (Erica C Shaw)

White glue 50%
Sodium silicate 50%

Add EPK (or any kaolin) and water, until it is of mayonnaise consistency.

Then glaze and fire. Mia in ABQ
