The Kelowna Clay festival is in the process of selecting 6 presenters =
for the 2003 festival. This is an open format event, with particpants =
free to move from room to room as they please during presentations. In =
2001 this format promoted a friendly, interactive atmosphere which =
resulted in creative stimulation that continued over the weekend. This =
was a very exciting event for both presenters and participants.

Anyone that presents workshops and would like to be considered for the =
2003 festival, is asked to send me a discription of your workshop, fees, =
and qualifications. My contact information is at the bottom of this =
post. While a detailed submission would be best, we will consider a =
brief outline at this stage, as we want to create a short list as soon =
as possible. We will contact you for additional information if we feel =
your workshop would fit into the next festival.

We will also add your name to our contact list of potential presenters =
for future events.

Thank you.

Bob Hamm

PS - The Kelowna Clay Festival 2001 was wildly successful, beyond =
anything the organizing commitee had hoped for. I had hoped to have a =
report on the festival finished by now and posted to the clay festival =
web page. Unfortunately busy fall pottery sales derailed that plan. We =
are rounding up data and images and should be ready to file this report =
in the next few weeks. I will the list know as soon as I have this done. =
Thank you.

Dear Bob,
I've enclosed a really long workshop description in Microsoft Publisher
format. It's a poster from an upcoming workshop I'm giving in Indiana.
I'm not sure how long your festival is...my workshops can be tailored from 1
day onwards. (Actually, I've deleted the attachment, as it was 2.7 MB. I
can print it and send it snail mail if you're interested in seeing it.) I
suspect you'll want a demonstation, rather than hands on. I would demo my
forming techniques, explain use of plaster in forming, go into plaster
techniques, show and explain ash glazes and talk about single-firing, all of
which I use in my normal work.
My fees are variable, depending on ability of groups to pay. The range from
$300 per day (US), upwards to $500 per day. Travel expenses are usually
paid by the organization. I pack a lot of equipment with my demos, so find
it preferable to drive to workshops. This would most likely entail a series
of workshops along the way, or at the ultimate destination. I don't know if
that is too complicated for you. (Robin Hopper has expressed interest in my
teaching previously...is he near you?)
Anyways, I have given several dozen workshops over the years, throughout the
United States. Only one in Canada, in Hamilton, Ontario, at a college whose
name escapes me at the moment. Darlene Benner was the professor there.
I've worked full time in clay for the past 24 years, and have supported
myself by sales and production throughout that time period. I've produced a
line of large and small single fired ash glazed pieces, and have a number of
large scale architectural fountains and murals in my resume as well. If you
want to know more about my work, I was featured in the December 1994 issue
of Ceramics Monthly.
Is this enough info? Sorry to be late with this...lots of work going on at
the moment. Not sure if I'm at all what you want, but just thought I'd
throw my hat into the ring.
Thanks,
Richard Aerni
