wood kilns in the US. I am plann
I am looking for information on the environmental impact of firing wood =
kilns in the US. I am planning on building a small anagama and am trying =
to be sure that I have taken into consideration all the factors. I live =
in Colorado, we obviously can't fire here when the area is so dry and =
under a fire ban, but under normal circumstances I would like to reduce =
any unhealthy or unwelcome impact on the environment.=20
Thanks in advance for helping.

Does anyone out there know of any resources for information.

Hi Nancy,
I figure my conversion to woodfiring two years ago replaces 800 to 1000
gallons of propane per year. That's a lot of carbon that is not being
removed from the earth's crust and pumped into the atmosphere. I feel
pretty darn good about that. As you probably know, the carbon released
by wood burning is obtained from the atmosphere, not from fossil fuels
that have been stored underground for millions of years. So I say yes,
build that woodkiln. Help reduce America's reliance on fossil fuels from
repressive foreign countries (Iraq, Saudi Arabia, etc.)
The only "bad" effect I can think of is smoke.
How close are your neighbors, and more importantly, are they downwind
from you? luckily mine are 2 miles away, and probably never even see the
smoke.
best wishes
Hardway Herman
