Whether the gallery has sold the pc or broken the pc you still should get
the 60%. They would also collect their 40%. That is what insurance is for-
to compensate one for a loss(in this case both of you). They have already
done you a service by putting your work on display, given you exposure and
hopefully you would have signed a professional contract outlining issues
like this. There really should be no questions.
I would hope that the gallery had the insurance otherwise you could insure
it yourself. Self-insured is different..isues dealing with claims.
