looking for crystalline glazes and firing info.

Hello Everyone,
I am still looking for some more crystalline glaze recipes to work with.
I am firing to ^6. When firing these pieces, what is the best way to
catch the run-off glaze? Do I have to throw an extra pedestal with a
catch basin for each pot? Or could I just use well washed shelves?
Thanks a lot.

Hi Evan,

Although some crystalline glazes run very little and can be fired without
pedestal and catch basin, most run enough that you must use them.

I think that whenever you are using a new crystalline glaze recipe, you
should always fire on the pedestal/catch basin until you know the glaze (and
its firing schedule) well enough that you are SURE that it will not ruin a
shelf if fired directly on it.

Evan - For wider bowl forms just use crystalline glaze on interior.
Any other "pot" will need some type of detachable pedestal and catch
basin - a washed shelf will not work with typical crystalline glazes.
