I don't rinse everything, but I find when I rinse and let dry for several
hours, the moisture left in the bisque seems to "suck" the glaze into texture
and "grog holes" better. I have 1 glaze that really leaves a lot of "bubble
holes" in the dry glaze that I have to "rub", I don't seem to have as many
"bubble holes" if I rinse first. Also, I rinse in a bucket of water, I'm
sure this is not the best method, but seems to work fine and saves a ton of
water!

I too rinse in a bucket because I don't have running water. I do cone 6
stoneware bisqued to 05. lately I have begun to wonder how often I
should change the water. I know that by the time I can see dust/crud
floating in the water it is really too late. is there a rule of thumb
for those of us whose running water only happens when we run up and down
the stairs with the buckets?

also I was told to wash/rinse about an hour or so before I start to
glaze. but I was in a warm school studio then, now I am in my cold,
damp basement. sometimes I think that the variables are so
idiosyncratic to each potter.
